The UKFS review process
In February 2021 the four countries began a comprehensive review process of the (4th) edition of the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS).
In September 2023 a new (5th) edition of the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS), agreed by all four countries was published.
You can read a summary of the review process to produce the 5th edition of the UK Forestry Standard (October 2023), including how stakeholders were consulted.
Implementation Date
The new 5th edition (2023) has been implemented from 1st October 2024.
A 12-month transition period was put in place for guidance updates, familiarisation with the new edition, and finalisation of draft woodland plans. This aimed to minimise business disruption, especially regarding plant supply and alternative productive species.
Transition Period
During the transition period we provided information to support applicants and stakeholders which outlined Scottish Forestry's approach to handling in progress applications through the change.
A reference table for managing the UKFS change was also made available to assist with managing the transition.
During the transition period information was also made available on the Forestry Grant Scheme pages detailing any upcoming changes in the eligibility criteria.
